What's it like living with anxiety and depression?

Updated: Jul 28, 2021

You are not lazy, unmotivated, or stuck. After years of living your life in survival mode, you are exhausted. There is a difference.

This is one of the statements I hear most when people talk about living with anxiety and depression:

It's exhausting.

The worrying.

Ruminating on the past.

Catastrophising about the future.

Over-analysing something that happened or was said that morning.

Over-thinking something you plan to do later.

Living in a constant state of red alert.

Wanting to control small things, to control everything.

Recognising but not being able to escape your negative outlook.

Wanting to get everything done but feeling like doing nothing.

The constant act, keeping up the façade: Trying to appear swan-like on the surface while underneath you are paddling for your life.

The inner voice that says things like "Why are you like this? This is ridiculous, stop being like this, why can't you just stop being like this!?"
