The UK is in lockdown. Some are calling it Lockdown 3.
I could list all the things we are not allowed to do. But I'd rather focus on the things we CAN do. Because we're not locked up. We still have freedom and choice within our own environment.
We can still choose to pursue positive actions and interactions if we use a bit of positive thinking!
This will help us combat the symptoms and feelings of depression and anxiety.
We can phone, email, message, WhatsApp, Zoom and Skype with friends and family
We can talk to and hug anyone in our household/social bubble
We can cuddle our pets
We perform a random act of kindness
We can choose food and drink which bring us enjoyment, nourishment, pleasure
We can read books
We can listen to: the radio, podcasts, audiobooks, dramas or comedy
We can watch movies, dramas, comedy and documentaries
We can learn new languages, recipes, skills
We can paint and draw and craft and puzzle
We can play board games, card games or enjoy jigsaws
We can game online with friends
We can inhabit and interact with the positive places on social media
We can choose how much news we do or don't consume
We can exercise inside or outside
We can look at photos
We can plan get togethers and holidays and enjoy the anticipation
We can write letters (actual letters on paper) or notes on cards and post them
We can volunteer in some way - essential shopping for the vulnerable, a listening ear on the phone
We can soak in baths
We can light a scented candle
We can garden
We can re-decorate a room or upcycle a picture frame
We can wear what we like
We can walk or run or hike or cycle outside
Or, we can do nothing if that is what pleases us
A sunset walk on the hills was definitely on my CAN do list so that is what I did today!
What small thing can you do today to create enjoyment for yourself? Is it on that list or have you got something else you would like to do?
