Been through a rough patch?

Updated: Jul 28, 2021

My grandfather had very green fingers. Geraniums were his main passion but this hydrangea was his.

After he passed away, the hydrangea and all his other shrubs and flowers kept my grandmother company in the garden they'd shared for more than 50 years of their 64 year marriage.

When their home was sold several years ago, the hydrangea moved to my father's garden on the south coast. But it wasn't very happy there. The conditions weren't right.

It became spindly and sparse, it barely produced any blooms.

About 18 months ago it came to live with me in Malvern. Turns out it loves Malvern. It's as happy here as I am.

Last summer it was rich with foliage and a wonderful crop of flower heads.

It's by my front door and every day I enjoy seeing the new leaves that have appeared. I think it will thrive even more this year.

It's a small reminder that even if we've had a rough patch and not been the best version of ourselves for some time, we CAN rediscover our true self and reach our full potential.
